New
Affiliation Agreement in Miami Expands the Programming Block’s Reach
CNN
Latino, the Spanish-language U.S. Hispanic programming block is expanding to Miami, it was announced today by Cynthia Hudson,
senior vice president and general manager of CNN en Español and Hispanic
Strategy for CNN/U.S. With the addition of Miami to its existing presence in
Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix and Salt Lake City, CNN Latino
programming will now be available in markets that represent about 36 % of U.S. Hispanic Households.
CNN Latino's broad spectrum of programming
covering news, lifestyle, documentary, talk and debate represents an
alternative to traditional Hispanic networks, and it will now be available on KPDR-LD
Channel 19 in Salt Lake City. As part of its expansion plan, CNN Latino has
partnered with KPDR Partners, to develop its alliance with this new affiliate.
KPDR-LD will be broadcasting CNN Latino’s programming block from 4-12 PM (MT). They
anticipate providing local Hispanic content in the future.
Channel 19,
is a low-power television station in the Salt Lake City market. According to
Nielsen’s 2012-2013 Hispanic or Latino TV homes Universe Estimates, the Salt
Lake City market ranks 31st in the country with 95,370 Hispanic
Households.
"KPDR,
Channel 19, is excited about our new CNNL programming lineup. With the
growing Hispanic population in the Salt Lake valley, and the lifestyle and
entertainment programming CNNL provides, we feel this is a great fit for the
Salt Lake Hispanic community," said Craig Caples, station owner.
The addition
of Salt Lake City reaffirms our commitment to continue the expansion of the CNN
Latino brand nationally. We are in continuous discussions with other affiliates
in other Top 10 markets, and hope to make those announcements in the coming
months,” said Cynthia Hudson.
